Rosebell Kagumire
Multimedia journalist, specialized in new media, conflict and development

Rosebell is a Ugandan multimedia journalist with a specialization in the new media, conflict and development. She has worked with Oxfam media project as Editor and Rights in Crisis Digital Campaigner at Channel16 (Ch16.org) covering humanitarian issues in eastern Africa. She has experience in communications in women, peace and security issues in Africa.
Rosebell has also worked as a Communications officer with Isis-WICCE, a leading women’s rights organisation working in different African countries in conflict. She worked on women’s rights and needs in conflict and post conflict DRC, South Sudan and Uganda. In 2009, Rosebell won the Waxal Award for Best English-Speaking African Journalist’s Blog hosted by PANOS Institute West Africa and Global Voices for her work on rosebellkagumire.com.
She’s a regular critic of media narratives on Africa. Her critique of Kony2012, campaign by a charity Invisible Children drew a lot of world attention to the real issues affecting people in Uganda. Her Youtube video attracted more than 600,000 viewers. A new media enthusiast, Rosebell authors for Global Voices and she’s an Internet Freedom Fellow from U.S Department of State Human Rights program.
Rosebell holds a Masters in Media, Peace and Conflict Studies from the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. She has also studied non-violent conflict at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
