Margarita Simonyan

Editor-In-Chief, RT, Moscow, Russia

I was born in Southern Russia, and started my journalistic career in my native town at the age of 18, after spending a year as a student in Bristol, N.H., USA. Later I earned my a University degree, combining my studies with field journalism.

During my career with the state TV channel “Rossiya” (starting from 2001) I reported from Chechnya during the Second Chechen Campaign, from the Beslan School Siege, and from Abkhazia.

I have received several awards for journalism in my career thus far and, in 2005,  was named Editor-in-Chief of RT, the first Russian around-the-clock English-language news channel.

Following the launch of RT in Arabic and Spanish, I was named Editor-in-Chief of the global multilingual television news network RT, broadcasting from studios in Moscow and Washington to audiences all over the world.

I am the first Vice-President of the National Association of TV and Radio Broadcasters (NAT) and a member of The Public Chamber of Russia. In 2010 my first book, “Heading to Moscow!” was published.

My e-mail address is ms@rttv.ru and I look forward to hearing from you.
