Many of the rooms have been named after the paintings on their ceilings, such as the Swans Room, the Room of the Sirens, the Magpie Room or the Room of the Coats of Arms.

The conical chimneys visible on the outside of the building are the most characteristic feature of the town of Sintra.

Azeitão, Natural Park of Arrabida and Setubal

Full Day: Saturday, 5 November.

Price: EUR 120 (per person)
Minimum Required Attendence: 15 pax

Leave Cascais towards South. Cross the emblematic bridge 25th April (Similar do the Golden Gate) and proceed to the small place of Azeitão.

Situated in the Nature Reserve of the Serra da Arrábida, the Azeitão area includes various characteristic villages, which adopted the names of the quintas (country houses/estates) around which they developed.

?Several aristocratic families made this delightful region, of great natural beauty, their summer residence. They built fine country houses and mansions.

A visit to Azeitão also provides the opportunity to taste the excellent regional products, such as the cheeses, the famous tarts and the wines, in particular the table wines made from Periquita grapes, and the Moscatel of Setúbal.

Along the Portuguese countryside until we will reach the wine cellars of José Maria da Fonseca where the art of winemaking awaits our guests. Famous for their Moscatel Wine production they’re also very proud of the first bottled red wine in Portugal.

After the visit and the wine tasting, proceed towards the astonishing landscape of the Natural Park of Arrabida.
Time to explore the marvellous scenery of the Nature Park of Arrábida, home to unique species of fauna and flora it also provides incredible views over the Atlantic Ocean in a setting worth of 1.000 pictures…

Arrábida Natural Park has incomparable natural beauty, where the blue of the sea alternates with the white tones of the chalk cliffs and the depths of the green vegetation that covers the mountain range.

One of the main attractions of the Park is the wealth of its indigenous vegetation. ?The action of the sea against the mountains has originated a line of beaches characterised by fine sand and transparent waters, that we might otherwise believe could only be found in the Mediterranean, such as Figueirinha, Galapos and the Portinho da Arrábida.

The zone was appreciated by Franciscan friars between the 16th and 19th centuries, who inhabited the convent that still exists in the zone and meditated in the isolated chapels dispersed throughout the mountains.

Continue to the city of Setúbal and after a short walk in the town centre.
The development of Setúbal has always been linked to the seafaring activities facilitated by its location at the mouth of the River Sado, and it was already one of the country's main ports in the 14th century.

The city was the birthplace of outstanding Portuguese cultural figures, particularly Bocage (a 19th century poet, famous for the ironic tone and social criticism that he put into everything he wrote), and Luísa Todi (an important lyric singer). The Convent of Jesus, which houses the Municipal Museum, is in the Gothic-Manueline style, and the Fort of São Filipe, now converted into a "Pousada" (country-house hotel) from which one can enjoy a fantastic view of the city, the River Sado, Tróia and the Arrábida mountain range, also deserve special mention.

Stop for lunch at the Fort of São Filipe (Pousada)

São Filipe's historical Pousada - is installed in a fort from the late XVII century built by King Philip II of Spain (Philip I of Portugal). This historic luxury hotel has a breathtaking view over the River Sado estuary from its terrace. The attractive Restaurant, offers a welcoming and friendly service and excellent Portuguese Specialities.
