Fiona Spruill
Editor, Emerging Platforms, The New York Times

Fiona Spruill is the editor in charge of all New York Times products on mobile phones and tablets, including The Times’s apps for Android, iPhone and iPad, and the mobile Website. She is the newsroom's lead on the development of all new mobile products, working closely with business-side and software colleagues to define the company's mobile strategy.
Before moving into this role in January 2011, Ms. Spruill managed The Times’s Web newsroom, which was made up of a staff of 80 producers and editors who were responsible for publishing NYTimes.com 24 hours a day and creating a site that takes full advantage of the digital medium by producing original multimedia, encouraging reader participation and packaging the news in smart ways. She became editor of the Web newsroom in July 2006. Ms. Spruill, a graduate of Duke University, joined The New York Times in 1999 as an intern and has served as a business and international news producer; an editor of the site's home page, most notably on Sept. 11, 2001; associate editor; and deputy editor in charge of the features sections, during which time she served as the editorial lead on the last redesign of NYTimes.com, the launch of TimesSelect and the development of the movies, theater and travel sections on NYTimes.com.
