Director of Legal, Public and International Affairs, RTP, Lisbon, Portugal

I am the Director of Legal, Public and International Affairs for RTP, the public service broadcaster of Portugal and a proud member of the EBU. RTP is the host broadcaster for this year’s News Xchange event.

Prior to taking on this position, I was Director of RTP International Relations (2009 to present) and, before that, from 2004 to 2007, I was the Head of International Broadcasting – Director of RTP International and RTP África.

Since joining RTP in 1976 as a journalist, I have held a variety of positions, including anchor for the evening news (1981 to 1984), Editor in Chief for the News Department for RTP 1 (first national channel), Regional Channel Director for RTP Azores and CEO of the RTP production facility.

I hold a law degree from Lisbon Classic University and am a member of the Portuguese Lawyers’ Association, as well as the FIJ (International Federation of Journalists) and the FIJET (International Federation of Journalists and Writers of Tourism). I am a Member of the Supervisory Board of Euronews and President of the Channel’s Editorial Committee.

In addition, I am a teacher of Television Studies and Media History at Portuguese Catholic University (since 1998) and a teacher in the Master of Media Studies Program at UCP.
