Amy Selwyn

Managing Director, News Xchange

This is my sixth year with News Xchange and my second year in the role of Managing Director, a position I love!  I am responsible for managing the Team, overseeing the editorial program, working with sponsors, managing the financial performance and hosting the event itself.

My first paying job was as an actress. I was five years old. Despite rave reviews, however, I opted for a life in the business world, starting my career in 1983 with Salomon Brothers in New York. In 1987, I followed my heart and my passion for news, and I haven’t looked back once.

In 1987, I joined The New York Times as a marketing strategist, and later moved to The Associated Press in 1993, where I served as the agency’s Deputy Director of Strategic Planning and, later, as the AP’s first Director of Marketing. I moved to London in 1998 as Director of Sales, Strategy and Marketing for APTN, then moved to the BBC, where I headed up Rights & Business Development.

In 2004, following an 8-month sabbatical in Rome, where I studied ancient history and Renaissance art, and clocked more than 400 miles in a single pair of walking shoes, I returned to London and launched an independent consulting practice, specializing in marketing and brand strategies for news organizations.

I have worked with Eurovision and the EBU on an ongoing basis since 2005. In addition, I work with some of the top news organizations in the world, and I am a frequent trainer and speaker on social media, news and branding issues, as well as a certified coach and creativity consultant.

A graduate of Cornell University, I earned my MBA from New York University and completed the International Management Program (Masters) at The Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden. I am a part-time student of history at Harvard University, as well as a blogger and a champion of social media. In my spare time, I love to cook and practice yoga, though not yet at the same time, and I live in Exeter, New Hampshire.

My e-mail address is amy.selwyn@gmail.com and I look forward to hearing from you.
